Upward-seeking, the Self

rom the Adult Collection - 'Marijke Alida - Selected Poetical Works 17-26 years'

Upward-seeking, the Self,

With lonely hand-reach in some

Unconscious moment of the night,

Suddenly,

By dawn waves amber-washed - by fluid fires washed

White,

By veil-touchings and in myriad circling child-fingers, clasped and

Drawn,

Breaks hold -

And dizzy fainting, falls and thuds to Earth;

With how heavy eyes, waking

To the Greyness;

With how heavy feet

To the Slowness;

And shock, to the clenched palm's pain
